General Takahashi’s “Never Trump” Moment
General Daisuke Takahashi’s alliance with Vice President Caleb Hughes was inspired by the collapse of the Never Trump movement, in which prominent Republicans—who spent years opposing Donald Trump’s candidacy for president in 2016–bent over backwards to bend-the-knee to the MAGA movement after it became clear Trump would not only win the White House on the back of a cult-like following unprecedented in American politics. Politicians submitted themselves to numerous humiliation rituals to abandon their opposition of President Trump in hopes of gaining the support of his MAGA followers.
